Battle for round 2, table 4
Battle plan: What Lies Beyond
"Spilling in from the gardens, our fighters now find themselves amongst the vast palace. The architecture is confounding - hallways house desolate villages and incense billows from rooms where, rather than a chapel, there are whole temples dedicated to no gods in particular. What is clear, however, is that the palace is writhing, feeling the agony of the battles that now fill it.
Both sides know this to be the pivotal moment. The Wardens must secure the entryways whilst the Vultures must make their push deeper towards the throne room and the treasures beyond. The simple question is, which door should you choose?"
Set-up and Deployment
The Bag of Beyond
Each table will be provided with a Bag of Beyond containing six objective markers (Beyond Markers) with different runemarks. Each runemark corresponds to a status in the Beyond Table. When prompted, players will pull a random Beyond Marker and place it on top of the relevant objective, which then gains that status and effect, replacing any prior status.
Set up eight objectives as shown in the deployment map. All objectives begin the battle with no status.
During the Twist Phase, If one player’s faction is currently ahead in the overall narrative then that player may pull a random marker from the Bag of Beyond and place it on any objective, which immediately gains the corresponding status.
Round 2 - What Lies Beyond: During the Battle
A Foot in the Door
When a player is deploying a battle group from reserve they may choose one of the following:
Any objective that does not have a status and has not yet been chosen in this phase.
Any objective under their control that has not yet been chosen in this phase.
They may then use that objective as their deployment point rather than the position shown in the deployment map.
Then, if there are no more battle groups in reserve, starting with the player with the initiative, each player must choose one objective that does not have a status and remove it from play.
After the Reserve Phase of round 2 and once the Bag of Beyond is empty, there should be no status-less objectives left in play.
Reaching Beyond
Whenever a fighter finishes their activation wholly within 3” of an objective that does not have a status, and if there are still markers in the Bag of Beyond, pull a random marker from the bag and place it on that objective. If the Bag of Beyond is empty then there is no effect.
Doors, Doors, and More Doors.
At the end of each combat phase, resolve the scoring rules listed on The Entryway, The Throne, and The Latrine objectives.
Then, if one player has fewer victory points, they may choose any two objectives with Beyond Markers. Swap the Beyond Markers on those objectives. This does not alter who controls each objective.
